by Kim Dongrae · 40 years in K-drama · 50+ productions
“Hello. I am Kim Dongrae, formerly of the drama studio Raemongraein, and I have spent my career producing K-dramas in Korea. The productions I have worked on include Lovers in Prague, My Sassy Girl, Hwang Jini, Beautiful Mind, Sungkyunkwan Scandal, Can't Take My Eyes Off You and Reborn Rich — some fifty titles in all. If you have loved watching K-dramas until now, it is your turn to try writing one. Send us your story and your idea as a short synopsis, using the form on iamkstar.com. We will select the best of the work that arrives and give those writers the chance to debut as K-drama writers. Your imagination can become a new K-drama. I hope many of you will take an interest and take part. Thank you.”

Today the call opens. Across some fifty productions, Kim Dongrae has taken Korean stories from the page to screens around the world — and with this one the direction reverses: the story starts with you. Send a short synopsis, and selected writers get the chance to debut as a K-drama writer.
He began in his twenties as a location sound recordist, holding the boom on Autumn in My Heart — one of the dramas that started the Korean Wave — along with Eun-sil-i, Wedding Dress and Color. He then moved into producing, and has since made more than fifty dramas: among independent producers outside the broadcasters' own studios, few have made more.
Awarded the Culture Medal (Munhwa Pojang) at the Korea Content Awards for services to the broadcast video industry.

Fifty-five titles across broadcast, cable, web and streaming, including a Chinese co-production for Mango TV and several variety programmes. Where a drama has an official international title it is used here; the rest are the Korean titles romanized.

A story, not a résumé. Any genre — romance, thriller, historical, fantasy, workplace, coming-of-age. Prior credits are not required, and entries are judged on the idea, not on your CV.

Selected entries are reviewed with the producer, and the writers behind them are given the chance to debut as a K-drama writer. Development terms and fees are agreed directly with each selected writer.

Your imagination can become the next K-drama.
